Craftsmen
and manufacturers can purchase quality stamps such as
"14K", "18K", "Sterling",
"Platinum", and "Hand wrought" from
their local equipment supplier. Several companies such as
all craft will make a trademark stamp if a craftsman sends
them a sketch of the insignia, name, or logo.
The metal to be stamped is placed on a polished steel
surface plate and, with one firm blow of a ball peen hammer,
the stamp is struck. The mark should be made where it will
be clearly visible after all soldering operations have been
completed. The stamp should be held firmly so that it does
not move and cause a blurred image on the metal. If a
blemish forms on the reverse side of the metal it can be
removed with emery or pumice. Wax models can be hallmarked
by pushing a warm stamp against the surface of the wax.
